Robocop or Black Mirror? The real robot policeman patrolling the Singapore airport

From the fantasy of Cinema and TV series to reality. This police robot has caught the attention of several people who have seen it patrolling Changi Airport in Singapore, after five years of testing.

And it is that the robot, which can reach two meters in height, reminds the idea of Robocop or the Black Mirror series. “It was a spectacle, like something out of a movie or Black Mirror,” passenger Samwell Swant commented in a CNN report.

The idea is to deploy this robot throughout the city-state of Southeast Asia. That is, it is not just a team for distraction. Since April of this year, the robots have been patrolling and are designed to “project an additional police presence.”

As if it were a real agent, in the event of an incident this robot can cordon off the area and notify passers-by with its flashers, sirens and loudspeakers. Their interventions are carried out while waiting for a human agent.

“The integration of robotics improves the operational efficiency and capabilities of our frontline officers, enabling them to be more effective in their tasks,” Airport Police Superintendent and Chief of Operations Lim Ke Wei said in the report.

What does this robot have? It has speakers that emit audio messages and an LCD panel for visual messages. They have a height of 1.7 meters, and reaches 2.3 meters. They are also equipped with several 360-degree cameras. Earlier versions were worn in public parades in 2018 and 2022.
