Virtual reality glasses: Meta seeks to lower the recommended minimum age to children of 10 years

mark zuckerberg He hopes to expand his audience, just a few days after presenting the new virtual and mixed reality glasses: Meta Quest 3, and now targets children under 10 years of age. And it is that for Meta his new team is for the whole family.

The announcement was made public on the Meta blog, where it is noted that “starting later this year, parents will be able to set up parent-managed Meta accounts for Meta Quest 2 and 3 for their children ages 10 to 12.”

It is a proposal that does not escape controversy. And it is that their products indicate 13 years as an age limit, especially for a health issue. But Meta justifies its proposal, noting in the post that “there are a wide variety of engaging and educational apps, games, and more on our platform, most of which are rated for ages 10+.”

Now, according to a report on the El Español page, when the Quest 2 model is purchased from the Amazon store, it is specified that the product is not recommended for “children under 13 years of age, since the RV Helmet does not have the appropriate dimensions for a child and may cause discomfort or health effects, and younger children are at a critical period in their visual development.

On the other hand, it is also indicated that there was no talk about the changes that will be made to the equipment or about the certification of video games, since there are international standards for access by age.

However, in the Meta post it talks about parental controls, noting that “parents will also be able to choose whether their child’s data is used to improve the experience and will be able to delete their child’s account, including all data associated with it.” .
