Russia: Man accused of ‘terrorism’, accused of planning attacks on courts

The suspect allegedly wanted to attack Russian courts on behalf of Ukraine. A Russian man in his 40s was charged with “terrorism” after he was caught hiding “two improvised explosive devices” near the train station in the city of Tambov, 400 km southeast of Moscow. According to the Russian security services (FSB), the man is accused of wanting to carry out explosive attacks on two ships in the city on behalf of Ukraine.

According to the investigation, the suspect regularly visited pro-Ukrainian websites and was recruited by Ukrainian intelligence services to carry out these attacks.

Since the conflict began, Russia has reported dozens of acts of sabotage or attacks on Russian territory. For its part, Ukraine denies its involvement in these actions. According to Kyiv, these actions are caused by internal opposition to the Kremlin’s policies.

Hundreds of opponents, activists and ordinary Russians have been convicted and jailed for expressing their dissent since the Russian attack on Ukraine began.
