In the new program, called Lantern, major technology companies will share signals of activity that violate their anti-child exploitation policies, to speed up detection and remove and report problematic content.

These alerts may be email addresses, tags or keywords that are used to recruit and abuse minors or to sell material that involves child exploitation or abuse.

“Until now, there was no consistent procedure for companies to collaborate against predators that evade detection in services,” said Sean Litton, executive director of the Tech Coalition, which brings companies together around the problem.

“Lantern fills that gap and shines a spotlight on attempts across all platforms at online exploitation and abuse, helping to make the internet safer for kids,” he added.

Other companies that are part of the Tech Coalition are Snap or Discord.

Lantern’s announcement comes on the same day that a former senior Meta engineer told a U.S. Senate hearing that top executives, including Mark Zuckerberg, ignored his warnings that minors were not safe on the company’s platforms. company.

“Meta knows the harm that children experience on its platform and executives know that their measures fail to address it,” Bejar said.
