Disney+ begins to restrict the use of shared passwords in the United States

Disney+ has begun to restrict the possibility of sharing passwords with users who are not part of the same household in the United States, following in the wake of other platforms such as Netflixwhich prevents using the same account on devices located outside the main personal residence.

The streaming content platform already updated the information in the subscription contract in September 2023, when it established its position on account sharing, prohibiting sharing the subscription between users outside the home.

As was known, this measure began rolling out to Canadian subscribers in the fall and now, Disney+ has begun to implement it for users in the United States, to whom you have sent an email notice with the updated terms of account use, to which The Verge has had access.

This notification explains that, from now on, American users will find difficulties accessing the service if they use login credentials that do not belong to their home core.

Specifically, as Disney+ explained in the email sent to subscribers, the platform is adding “limitations for sharing accounts outside the home” and explaining how they can “evaluate compliance with these limitations.”

In this sense, it has detailed that, in order to determine whether the sharing restrictions are being complied with, the platform streamer can analyze account usage and compare it to new guidelines. Although, for the moment, he has not specified the process in more depth.

Changes in account usage they have already been launched for the new subscribers and, in the same way, Disney+ has specified that, for previously subscribed users, the restrictions will begin to apply. come into force on March 14.

This restriction on account sharing on Disney+ has occurred after the recent announcement by Hulu – the streaming content platform also owned by Disney Entertainment -, in which implemented the same measures to avoid sharing passwords with users outside the home.
