Prefect Ivelina Jean-Jacques Braud will leave his post in March

The end of the adventure of Prefect Brot in Yvelines. The Council of Ministers just announced this Wednesday the departure of Jean-Jacques Braud. The 68-year-old senior civil servant will leave his post on March 2 and will be replaced by Frédéric Rose, President Emmanuel Macron’s current security adviser. The 50-year-old magistrate, a former adviser to Minister Rachida Dati when she was in charge of justice matters, and a former member of the Interministerial Committee for the Prevention of Crime and Radicalization, will leave the Elysee Palace and return to Versailles on March 4.

While the departure of Jean-Jacques Braud may come as a surprise, just a few months before the Olympic Games, which will partly take place in Yvelines, it above all marks the end of an adventure that began in April 2018. And this was certainly atypical. .

The former adviser to Jacques Chirac quickly distinguished himself with his unusual style in a profession marked by sometimes pathological reserve. Since wooden language is clearly a foreign concept to him, he initially surprised elected officials with an expression that was both lyrical and direct.

Exceptional longevity

But behind the bright ties and colored socks, this fine scientist, lover of Chateaubriand and Charles Péguy, was able to rally his teams around his expertise, and some of his close friends have given him unwavering devotion ever since.

Modest, sensitive, and sometimes prone to outbursts, the sixty-year-old developed both high-profile friendships and other, more reserved ones with modest personalities. A former prefect in charge of refugees, this free-spirited man who could display a portrait of the actor Jean-Pascal Zadi in his office maintained strong ties with the Kanak leaders of New Caledonia, where he served for a year before resigning amid scandals. or the elected officials of Mayotte, of which he was prefect from 2002 to 2004. He also knew how to maintain feuds with several elected officials who risked waiting in vain for their invitation to his going-away party…

Prefect of Versailles for 70 months, Jean-Jacques Braud ultimately failed to beat the longevity record of Jean-Pierre Delpont, who served from March 1986 to October 1992. Seventy months during which he faced barbarity: he had, in particular, to direct the murder of Samuel Paty in October 2020 or an agent of the Rambouillet police station in April 2021.
