Macron meets with Putin and calls on Russia to find a collective response to avoid war with Ukraine

The President of France, Emmanuel Macroncalled his Russian counterpart on Monday, Vladimir Putinto find a collective response to avoid a war in Europe due to military tensions on the border with Ukraine.

At the start of your meeting with Putin in the Kremlin, Macron expressed his confidence in “find a useful and collective response for Russia and for all of Europe (…) that will prevent a war and build stability and trust for all”.

Macron He said he was aware of the “political-military” situation on the continent and appealed to the responsibility of all the actors involved in the crisis.

“The critical situation in Europe today worries us (….). For this reason, it is necessary for all of us to behave responsibly.”he pointed.

He recalled the telephone conversations he has had in recent weeks with Putin and considered that the dialogue is now “more current than ever” when it comes to guaranteeing peace and security in Europe.

Putin He highlighted the active efforts of Paris to resolve the crisis in Ukraine and to reach an agreement on security.

Both heads of state will offer a press conference at the end of their negotiations, after which the French leader will travel to Kiev to meet with the Ukrainian president, Volodímir Zelenski.

“The situation is too complex to expect great progress in the course of a meeting,” said the spokesman for the Russian Presidency, Dmitri Peskov, at his daily press conference this morning.

The Ukrainian Defense Minister, Oleksii Réznikov, assured that the probability of a military escalation on the border with Russia remains “low”. EFE
