Russian military withdrawal from the border with Ukraine will take “time”, says the Kremlin

The Kremlin announced Thursday that Russian troops deployed near Ukraine they will need “time” to return to their bases, in a context of strong tension with Western countries that accuse Russia to maintain or even strengthen its military presence in that area.

“The Defense Minister announced that some phases of the exercises were coming to an end, and that the military will return to their bases little by little,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov told reporters. “It’s a process that will take time,” he explained.

He also stressed that the deployment of troops, which began in December in the framework of land, air and sea military maneuvers in the vicinity of Ukrainian territory, took several weeks.

These troops, it is simple, “cannot take off and fly all at once. It takes time to do it,” insisted Peskov, assuring that the Russian Defense Ministry has planned a “calendar” for this withdrawal.

In addition, Peskov considered “unfounded, as always”, the accusations by the White House, which stated on Wednesday not only that Moscow had not withdrawn troops from its border with Ukraine, but on the contrary deployed 7,000 additional soldiers in this region. .

The West has been concerned for weeks about the possible risk of an invasion of Ukraine by Russia, which has concentrated more than 100,000 soldiers on the border with its neighbor.

Russia, which denies wanting to invade Ukraine, announced Tuesday and Wednesday the withdrawal of a part of his troops.
