In Andorra, justice ruled on Thursday against the ban on the wearing of the veil at school. She had been seized by the family of a 6th grade student at the Comte de Foix French high school in Andorra la Vella.
The child had been prevented from attending classes last September because she was wearing the veil.
No law prohibits religious symbols in schools
The Andorran Ministry of Education then tried to ensure that the teenager and her brother were educated in another establishment, in Escaldes-Engordany. But internal regulations also prohibit the wearing of the veil.
In its decision, the court of first instance finally put forward the right to religious freedom and education of the child, stressing that no Andorran law prohibits religious symbols in school. The government does not rule out appealing this decision, said a government source.
