Situation of Jeanine Áñez provokes insults and eggs between critics and followers

Initially, outside the Miraflores Women’s Penitentiary Center in La Paz were two of Áñez’s lawyers and a group of no more than ten people who a few days ago set up a vigil with demands for the former president’s freedom.

The minutes passed until Carolina Ribera, daughter of Áñez, was pushed through one of the alternative doors of the prison, who complained of having received blows and scratches by police officers who covered their faces when she sought to accompany her mother.

“They are going against a court order and they told me that my mother is not going to get out of there,” Ribera told the media.

The protesters identified with the ruling Movement for Socialism (MAS) closed the street that gives the main access to the prison to prevent an ambulance from entering and also guarded the rear access.

“We are going to be on vigil and we are not going to leave (…) it is not going to leave,” Bertha Taco told Efe, mentioning that her son lost his life during the political and social crisis of 2019.

Áñez began a hunger strike last week as a “last resort” to achieve her freedom and attract the attention of international organizations.
