The pope asks for peace to preserve the world “from the madness of war”

The Pope Francisco today called for peace so that the world is protected “from the madness of war” in a message posted on social networks in several languages, including in Russian and in Ukrainian, and which he accompanied with the words “let us pray together” and “Ukraine”.

“Jesus taught us that the diabolical senselessness of violence is answered with the weapons of God, with prayer and fasting. The queen of peace preserves the world from the madness of war,” Francis wrote on social media, in multiple languages, including Ukrainian, Russian, Italian, English and Spanish.

On Friday, he posted another with the phrase “war is a failure of politics and humanity, a shameful surrender.”

Also on Friday morning, the pope personally went to the Russian embassy to the Holy See to see the ambassador, Alexander Avdeev, and express his concern about Russia’s attack on Ukraine, the Vatican communication office confirmed.

In the afternoon, he had a telephone conversation with the head of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church, Sviatoslav Shevchuk, whom he guaranteed that he will do “everything he can”, the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church in Rome said in a statement.
