Mass blackouts in Taiwan due to “incident” at a power plant

The electrical failures occurred at 09:00 local time (01:00 GMT) on Thursday, when the meeting on the island between the president Tsai Ing-wen and the former head of US diplomacy with Donald Trump, Mike Pompeo.

The presidential office of Taiwan It said the blackout was caused by “an incident” at a power plant in the southern city of Kaohsiung, without giving further details.

This autonomous territory considered as its own by Beijing occasionally suffers electrical blackouts, but especially in hot seasons, when the demand for the use of air conditioning skyrockets.
