Colombia Elections 2022: Sergio Fajardo asks to vote to wage the battle against corruption at the polls

The presidential candidate for Colombia Sergio Fajardo, one of the names at stake today for the Centro Esperanza Coalition, asked his compatriots this Sunday to vote to start waging “the battle against corruption” at the polls.

Fajardo He voted very early at the Inem José Félix de Restrepo school in Medellín, accompanied by his partner, former Colombian Foreign Minister María Ángela Holguín.

“The fundamental message is vote. You have to vote. Vote for the person you want, but vote against corruption. A person who does not participate indirectly ends up supporting the corrupt because it is easier for them to buy votes and easier to win. The battle against corruption begins to be waged here at the polls, that is the invitation”declared the former mayor of Medellin.

Fajardo He is one of five candidates for the Hope Center Coalition that today he will choose the one who will be his standard-bearer for the presidential elections on May 29.

Although he still has to navigate this internal election of the Hope Center CoalitionFajardo appears in second place in the presidential voting intention polls, behind left-wing senator Gustavo Petro, from the coalition of the Historical Pact.

Fajardo said he felt “very optimistic” about the results of election day.

“I’m very happy. I am convinced that I am going to be president of Colombia, and this is the first step.”he claimed.

He also thanked the people who have accompanied and supported him throughout his campaign, adding that he hopes to “get the best result this afternoon.”

The politician pointed out that, after having been “happy in Medellín, in my land”, he will travel to Bogotá to await the results of the election day with the certainty that “I will win this and the next stage.”

The vote for the candidates of the three coalitions is complementary to today’s election of the new members of the Senate and the House of Representatives, which includes 16 “peace seats” for the victims of the armed conflict in the Lower House.
