Carolyn Claire Bridges, the 21-year-old model who lost both legs due to coronavirus complications

Carolyn Claire Bridges has a congenital heart condition for which, despite being fully vaccinated against coronavirus covid-19had complications from this disease that led her to undergo a procedure where both of her legs were amputated.

In January 2022, the model, with more than 13 thousand followers on Instagram, tested positive for the coronavirus and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of Tampa General Hospital, in United States, with a diagnosis of myocarditis, rhabdomyolysis (breakdown of muscles) cyanotic, implying that he did not have enough oxygen in his blood, and mild pneumonia.

The panorama with which he entered was not encouraging. In addition, hours after his admission, they had to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), his kidneys began to fail, and his body underwent dialysis.

Days after, the doctors decided that it was necessary to perform a fasciotomy on his legs. This surgical procedure consists of cutting the fascia, the tissue that surrounds and penetrates all structures of the body, to relieve swelling and pressure, and thus improve circulation in a tissue or muscle.

However, during surgery, the doctors realized that the damage was too severe and the solution was amputation.

Her parents, concerned about all the procedures their daughter was facing, signed up to a GoFundMe fundraising page, writing, “Claire is also facing a long and challenging recovery, and our hope is to provide her with the best possible resources for your ongoing health care needs. We appreciate all the love, prayers and support for Claire”.

The page, which has a goal of $100,000, has raised more than $42,000.

Her followers on social networks accompanied her in much of her process. By March 15, she celebrated through a post on Instagram that she could already sit alone and, three days later, he had already begun the recovery process at home, one day before his 21st birthday.

His father, Wayne Bridges, told the outlet Newsweek that “Claire is very happy to be home with family and friends. She has been mentally and emotionally draining, but now we are hopeful.”
