At least two demonstrators were wounded by bullets, one of them seriously, and two other people were arrested in Santiago de Chili in the framework of the commemoration of the Labor Dayas confirmed to Efe by police sources.
A group of street vendors in the central neighborhood of Central Station fired at people who were marching to commemorate May Day, leaving one of them in life-threatening after receiving a blow to the skull, local media reported.

“Thanks to the coordinated work with the Carabineros (militarized police) and the information from our camera center, two people involved in the shooting against demonstrators were arrested. We are going to take legal action.” tweeted the mayor of Estación Central, Felipe Muñoz.
From Carabineros they assured that looting, burning of public transport stops and incendiary barricades also took place in the area, in what was the first International Labor Day in the streets after two years of virtual commemorations due to the pandemic.
The CUT meeting brought together hundreds of people who marched without incident from the central Plaza Italia along the Alameda, which runs through Santiago, with little presence of police officers.
The event, which ended with a musical show, was attended by several authorities, who highlighted popular demands such as the freezing of prices, the reform of the pension system or the increase in the minimum wage.
On this, the Minister of Labor, Jeanette Jara, announced that the increase in the minimum wage from 350,000 pesos to 400,000 pesos -proposed by the Executive weeks ago- will take effect retroactively from this Sunday, if approved in Parliament.
Other specific marches were held in regions such as the coastal Valparaíso, which also passed without incident.
