Shooting in Cancun bar area leaves one dead and 6 injured; there is a detainee

One person died and at least six were injured this Friday in armed attacks against bars in the urban area of ​​the seaside resort of cancunin the Mexican Caribbean, reported local authorities.

The prosecutor’s office of the state of Quintana Roo (east), where this tourist destination is located, reported that there is a detainee for the aggression recorded at night on Kabah avenuewhich houses several entertainment centers frequented by residents of cancun.

“Six people were injured and one more lost his life from gunshots”reported a brief statement from the prosecution released on its website and on social networks.

A report from the emergency services indicates that the detonations were registered in four bars and that in one of them there were at least twenty shots.

The deceased person was in an establishment dedicated to the sale of beer, five of the injured were in a bar and one more arrived on his own foot to ask for attention at the Red Cross.

According to local media, the sites attacked are two bars that days before would have been threatened by alleged criminals.

The shots unleashed panic among the many people who were in these entertainment centers, local press reported.

In cancunwith some 880,000 inhabitants, criminal cells operate that extort money from merchants or pressure them to get involved in drug sales.

Similar incidents have been reported in urban areas of Caribbean resorts for more than a decade, some of them involving foreign residents who have set up businesses.

In mid-March, a British businessman living in Playa del Carmen was shot to death.

Attacks in tourist areas have also multiplied, such as a shooting on January 21 at a neighboring Cancun hotel complex that left two Canadians dead.

The Caribbean resorts are some of the favorite destinations in Mexico among international visitors.
