At least 19 injured after the impact of lightning in a military school in Colombia

At least 19 students from an Army cadet school Colombia in the municipality of Tolemaida, in the center of the country, they were injured after lightning struck the facilities, reported the military institution.

The event took place after 4:00 p.m. local time, when a dry bolt of lightning struck the place where the cadets were, the Army reported in a statement, in which it also clarified that it was not raining at the time of the events.

The General José María Córdova Military Cadet School of the National Army assured that 19 of the students were injured and were treated “immediately” by military health personnel and later transferred to a health center where they are under medical observation.

The students were carrying out the tactical campaign exercise on the premises of the sector known as Mesa Baja, in the Tolemaida military fort, where they were surprised by a natural electrical discharge.

The institution announced that “it will remain attentive to the evolution of the cadets, and will make all necessary support available to them and their families.”
