The most important urban event for the first time in Central and Eastern Europe

For the first time in its 20-year history, the world’s largest and most important event dedicated to cities, the World City Forum (WUF), will take place in Central and Eastern Europe in Poland. For five days, from June 26 to 30, Katowice will become the capital of all cities in the world. The motto of the Polish edition of WUF is: “We are changing our cities for a better future”. It is a unique opportunity to be part of an international event and decide on the future of cities. Free registration is open until June 22 at www.wuf.habitat.org.

Representatives from countries around the world, scientists, businessmen and, above all, city dwellers will seek solutions that translate into concrete actions. All this to make the cities we live in friendlier for residents.

The World City Forum was established on the initiative of UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Program – UN agency). The first Forum was held in Nairobi, Kenya, in 2002, and since then it has been held around the world, regularly every 2 years. The hosts for the next sessions were: Barcelona, Vancouver, Nanjing, Rio de Janeiro, Naples, Medellin, Kuala Lumpur and Abu Dhabi.

Discussion on the most important urban issues

“For the first time, the largest and most important event dedicated to cities, the World City Forum, will take place in our part of Europe. It is a great prestige for Poland and an expression of confidence on the part of our United Nations partners. At the event, we will show, among other things, the impressive transformation that our cities have undergone and we will share our experiences”, says Grzegorz Puda, Minister of Funds and Regional Policy.

Discussions at WUF will focus on 6 topics:

• Fair cities

• Green future of cities

• Innovations and technologies

• Develop the resilience of the city

• Urban planning and management

• The future of the city’s economy and finances

Due to the Russian aggression in Ukraine and the huge destruction in Ukrainian cities, at the request of Poland, the topic of reconstruction of the city after the war will be included in the program.

More than a conference

We really want WUF11 to be not only a gathering of experts and professionals, but also to become an attraction for the people of Katowice and everyone who will visit the capital of the Silesian Voivodeship at that time. In this context, I encourage you to participate in the Urban Expo and visit the 11 areas that we have named ‘WUF in the city’”, says Małgorzata Jarosińska-Jedynak, Deputy Minister for Funds and Regional Policy, who is also the Government Plenipotentiary for the preparation of the World City Forum.

The urban exhibition is the most interesting and the one that attracts the largest number of participants in the World City Forums. In the Urban Expo, countries, cities and companies prepare their promotional pavilions. They are often impressive and interesting structures.
