Mariúpol authorities estimate 22,000 civilians in mass graves

Advisor to the Mayor of Mariupola Ukrainian port city under the control of Russian troops, said today that possibly up to 22,000 people have already been buried in mass graves.

“To date, according to our estimates, between 20,000 and 22,000 people are already buried in mass graves. It is not known how many more are under the rubble,” Petró Andryushchenko told Ukrainian television in statements collected by the Unian agency.

He added that no one among the Russian troops “bothers” to first search for the bodies of the dead and remove them.

“Basically, they just rake it all up and take it to the landfill. Let’s face it, we will never know everyone who was taken out this way. And we will never find them,” she noted.

On the other hand, he stated that the entire Russian health system now operating in Mariupol treats fewer people in a day than a single therapeutic department did before the war.

“All this shows that there is simply no medical system. There are no medicines or equipment, what had been taken to Donetsk or to Russia“, said.

Last Monday, the mayor of Mariupol, Vadim Boichenko, had indicated that the troops killed more than 22,000 inhabitants of Mariupol, twice as many as died at the hands of the Nazis in World War II.

He also said that the number of mass graves in the surroundings of Mariupol is growing.

“They destroyed 50% of our residential buildings, that is, they reduced them to ashes. In other words, they have done more damage than the Nazis in two years of occupation. I remind you that between 1941 and 1943 the fascists, Hitler, killed just over 10,000 people”, – said Boichenko.
