Vladimir Putin spoke about Russia’s nuclear weapons and when he would use them

The Russian President, Vladimir Putinassured today that his country does not threaten anyone and would only resort to the nuclear weapons “if necessary” to defend its sovereignty.

“We are not a threat, but everyone should know what we have and what we will use if necessary to defend our sovereignty,” said Putin during the International Economic Forum in Saint Petersburg.

Putin considered “irresponsible” statements by senior Western officials that Russia threatens the world with its atomic weapons.

“We hear that kind of rhetoric. Are we going to be quiet? We respond as we should. As soon as we respond, they grab onto that and say: Russia is a threat.”lament.

Regarding a possible military confrontation with the West, he assured that Western countries have already declared a “full-scale war” in countries like Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan and Yugoslavia.

Before the start of the current Russian military campaign in Ukraine, Russia accused kyiv of trying to restore its nuclear potential, which it gave up after the fall of the USSR in exchange for security guarantees.

Also, Moscow warned of a possible deployment of nuclear weapons in Finland and Sweden, once both countries eventually and formally join the Atlantic Alliance.

NATO believes that Moscow is raising its nuclear weapons to prevent the Atlantic Alliance from getting directly involved in the defense of Ukraine.
