Colombia Elections 2022: violence claims the life of a soldier and an electoral witness

The violence was charged this Sunday, when the presidential elections of Colombiathe life of a soldier in the department of Caquetá (south) and of an electoral witness of the leftist Historical Pact in the town of Guapi (southwest), reported the authorities.

“In the reaction of the troops, the capture of the two individuals who committed the attack was achieved, who were injured and, in guarantee of their human rights, they are given first aid by the combat medics,” the Army added in a statement.

The institution said that, apparently, the attackers are part of the former FARC dissidents and that their weapons were seized from the detainees.

MURDERED ELECTORAL WITNESS

On the other hand, the Historical Pact, of which the leftist presidential candidate Gustavo Petrodenounced that Roberto Carlos Rivas, who was going to be an electoral witness in the elections for that coalition, was assassinated by unknown assailants who shot him as he left his house in the municipality of Guapi, in the upheaval Cauca (southwest).

The man was president of the Community Action Board (JAC) of the San Martín neighborhood and “had been designated as a witness to the Historical Pact,” according to that coalition.

Likewise, the Historical Pact denounced the murder of human rights defender Ersaín de Jesús Ramírez Ospina by gunmen who shot him while he was jogging in the municipality of Patía, also in Cauca.

The man, the coalition said, actively participated in the campaign in that region of the country, which is why they asked the authorities to clarify these crimes perpetrated on the day of the elections in which Petro disputes the Presidency with the independent populist Rodolfo Hernández.
