The macabre find that began with a skull and ended with 339 bodies

“Think of the scariest movie you’ve ever seen and imagine something ten times worse.” That was what Dewayne Wilson, the medical examiner who attended one of the most chilling Noble findings, in the state of Georgia, said, USA.

Apparently, a person was walking his dog in February 2002, when the pet tripped over a stone that, after checking it out, turned out to be a human skull. He immediately called the Environmental Protection Agency and warned of what had happened.

According to what ‘Wicked Horror’ reports, a media specialist in stories like this, the Police had been receiving calls indicating that something strange was happening in that area but, apparently, the investigations they had done did not yield anything.

When the Environmental Protection Agency called the authorities to report what had happened, several uniformed men went to the crematorium. tri-statethe main person in charge of cremating the bodies of the deceased Noble, Georgia and Alabama. There they found the worst.

On that February 15, the skull found turned out to be one of more than 300.

The macabre find

From what the police reported at the time, there were bodies in various states of decomposition throughout the crematorium building.

Some were still inside the coffin they’d arrived in, stacked on a mountain in one corner; others still had tags on their feet that identified them; several were scattered around the place, inside and outside the property.

The Police managed to recover 339 bodies without being cremated. Unfortunately, only 226 could be identified through some DNA tests, because in some cases they were at such a level of decomposition that it was impossible to identify them.

After this discovery, the authorities asked the families who had allegedly received ashes from their relatives to approach the corresponding entities to be able to check what was in the funerary urns.

The obtained results confirmed that some of the relatives who would have sent the bodies of their loved ones to be cremated in Tri-State were receiving concrete dust.

Ray Brent Marsh

The original owner of the crematorium tri-state it was called Tommy Marshwho handed over the business to his son Ray Brent Marsh in the mid 90’s.

The latter was captured immediately after the discovery of the bodies and, after a trial in which he accepted the charges, was sentenced to 13 years in prison for abuse of a corpse, fraud and robbery by deception.

Marsh served his sentence in 2016 and received probation.

As to why he did it, there are several theories and he has never delved into the cause of his actions.

The quickest conclusion reached by the authorities is that it was a question of money, since they could save large amounts if they did not cremate the bodies.

However, Marsh’s lawyers claimed, after conducting medical tests, that both he and his father had been poisoned with mercury because the crematorium’s ventilation system was not working properly, which could create other types of illnesses and neurological damage.

In addition, the lawyer Dave Huddleston – Marsh’s representative – in an interview with ‘Channel 2’ tried to deny other beliefs that there were about why Marsh did this, who confirmed that “nothing wrong was done to these bodies apart from not cremating them” .

life after prison

Marsh served his sentence and was released from prison on parole in 2016. Apparently, as reported by the American media ‘WSB Tv’, the ex-convict wrote a letter to the community in which he apologized for his actions.

”In the future, I can assure everyone that my life and deeds will not only prove the sincerity of my wordsbut also my desire to lead a life worthy of this community”, were some words that could be read.

However, many of the people who were directly affected by what Marsh did they do not agree with the man returning so soon to the community.

Helen McKin, whose grandmother was one of the bodies found that day in February, spoke to the same outlet and commented: “He received a 12-year sentence, my family received a life sentence. […] It’s very scary to be in the same community with a person who could do that”.
