Chile: Convention finishes drafting and voting on the proposal for a new Constitution

The plenary session of the convention drafting the new Constitution of Chili Against all odds, the last round of voting ended this Tuesday before the official presentation of the fundamental law proposal to the citizens, which will take place next Monday.

“We made it, despite all the barriers we’ve had this year. I congratulate you”, celebrated between applause the president of the organ, Maria Elisa Quinteros.

The constitutional convention has been working against the clock for almost a year to present to the citizens a proposal for a fundamental law to replace the current one, inherited from the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet (1973-1990) and considered by many to be the origin of the great inequalities of the country for its marked neoliberal cut.
