Since the highest US judicial instance announced its revocation on June 24, the American Civil Liberties Union, Planned Parenthood and the Center for Reproductive Rights indicated this Friday that they have gone to the courts of eleven states with the intention of restoring that practice.

Those three agencies have acted jointly in eleven states and have already achieved temporary victories in Louisiana, Texas, Utah Y Kentucky.

They also sued in Mississippi, Arizona, West Virginia, Florida, Idaho, Oklahoma and Ohio, although in the latter state the courts have already ruled this Friday and have upheld the ban on abortion beyond six weeks.

By his count, abortion is not available or readily available in about 12 of the 50 US states, and as a result of the Supreme Court decision that number is expected to rise to about 26 in the coming weeks and months.

Planned Parenthood President Alexis McGill Johnson warned in a telematic press conference that the other 24 states will not be able to absorb the expected increase in demand.

Every extra day is a victory and every patient is worth fighting for”, pointed out the representative of the organization that manages the largest network of reproductive health clinics in the country, calling for individual and collective mobilization.

The Supreme Court’s ruling annulled the ruling ‘Roe v. Wade’ (1973), which protected the right to abortion in the country, and the joint action of these NGOs seeks to fight state by state for the maintenance of that jurisprudence and ultimately achieve a national response.

McGill Johnson pointed out that this is not the time to remain silent or to maintain a neutral position, because eight out of ten citizens in the country, according to the figures provided, are in favor of legal abortion.

The American President, Joe Bidensupported this Thursday in Madrid during the summit of the NATO apply what is known asnuclear option” to pass a new abortion law, stating that he is in favor of launching a “exception” to parliamentary rules.

The NGOs want to take advantage of the legislative elections this November and the presidential elections of 2024 to defend the right to voluntary interruption of pregnancy at the polls, and previously urged each citizen to pressure their local politicians so that this right remains in force.

His call included the possibility of the Biden Administration declaring a “national emergency” that allows patients in areas where abortion has been banned to receive the necessary medication from other states, after having received telematic medical care to assess their situation.
