Australia asks China to use its influence to stop the war in Ukraine

Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong today asked China to use his influence and his close relationships with Russia to stop the war in Ukraine, which he described as an “illegal” invasion by Moscow.

Wong made the remarks in Singapore, where he is on an official visit before traveling to the Indonesian island of Bali to attend the G20 foreign ministers’ meeting on Thursday and Friday.

After the last NATO summit, an organization that warned that Russia is a “threat” and that China “challenges” its “interests, security and values”, it remains to be seen the reaction of beijing to the United States and other alliance partners.
