Author of the July 4 massacre in the United States considered committing a second attack

The 21-year-old man accused of shooting Monday during a July 4 parade in a suburb of Chicago considered committing a second attack in Madison, in the neighboring state of Wisconsin, police said Wednesday.

Robert Crimo told investigators he drove to Madison, where he “saw more celebrations” and “seriously considered using the gun he had in the vehicle to commit another attack,” said Christopher Covelli of Highland Park Police.

The young man fired into the crowd from the roof of a trade fair on Monday when the parade had just started. He killed seven people and another thirty were injured.

After being arrested Monday night near Chicagowas questioned by Highland Park police and provided “a voluntary statement to investigators confessing his acts” during a videoconference appearance before a judge, Assistant District Attorney Ben Dillon said.

Judge Theodore Potkonjak refused bail. The suspect, with hair down to the nape of his neck and tattoos on his neck and face, remained impassive during the appearance.

At a press conference, prosecutor Eric Rinehart did not want to speculate about the motive.

If you are found guilty Robert Crimo, charged with seven murders, faces life in prison without the possibility of parole. He will appear before another Waukegan Court judge on July 28.
