An unprecedented – and fragrant – protest. Catalan police officers (Spain) deposited 3,000 cannabis plants in front of their police station this Thursday to protest against their working conditions and the “disastrous” management of the fight against drug trafficking, reports The Independent.
Marijuana production is booming in Catalonia. In recent years, the Mossos d’Esquadra, the police of the autonomous region, have therefore seen their work intensify and the number of seizures of plantations increase drastically. But the organization and the working conditions did not follow.
The @SAP_MOSSOS again demands solutions for the unhealthy accumulation of marijuana in police stations. And they present the case of Tuesday, October 4, when the @mossos they unloaded in front of the door 3,000 plants located in La Ràpita. pic.twitter.com/Kyya2i0sZ1

Too many malfunctions
The Catalan police have the impression of being “part-time gardeners” given the time spent “cutting, collecting and transporting the plantations to the police stations”, explains the SAP-FEPOL union in a press release. Nothing has been thought of for cutting the plants: the police only have secateurs available and no protective equipment (gloves, boots, mask).
They also have to transport the cannabis in their vehicles and vans, and therefore endure its strong smell. In the police stations, no storage space has been provided despite the mass of marijuana confiscated on a daily basis. So many dysfunctions that cause agents to be fed up.
The police are therefore now calling for a “comprehensive solution” to this problem. No reaction has yet been communicated, apart from that of the neighbors of the police station and the local supermarket, indignant at the smell of this “protest”.
