USA has directly warned Russia that there will be consequences if it uses nuclear weapons in its war against Ukraineconfirmed this Friday the US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken.

Despite the high tension between Washington and Moscowthe secretary assured that high-ranking US officials maintain open lines of communication with their counterparts in Russia.
“We have communicated very clearly and directly to Russia that there will be consequences for any use of nuclear weapons“, said Blinken at a press conference in Washington with her French counterpart, Catherine Colonna.
“We have been very clear that when If we have something important to communicate to the Russians, we will do it. And in fact, we have done it.” he explained.
The leader of American diplomacy said that the “comments” of the Russian president, Vladimir Putinon the possible use of nuclear weapons are “the height of irresponsibility”.

“It is something that we are following very carefully and that we take very seriously because of what Russia has done in Ukraine”, Blinken pointed out.
The Pentagon reported this Friday that the secretary of Defense of the United States, Lloyd Austin, urged his Russian counterpart, Sergey Shoyguto keep the lines of communication open in the midst of war in Ukraine.
USA has previously highlighted the importance of keep communication open to avoid accidental confrontations with Russia in the military field, given the danger that they will lead to an escalation.
