A huge villa located in the heart of Rome (Italy) is for sale. Small problem if you are not part of the richest 1% of the planet: it is the “most expensive house in the world”, according to the real estate agency in charge of the sale.
The property in question is the Villa Aurora, also called Casino de l’Aurore. Located in the heart of the Italian capital, in an upscale neighborhood, the large 2,800 m² house, surrounded by a one-hectare garden, is estimated at 471 million euros, reports HuffPost.

Auctions without a buyer
Its value is partly due to a 2.7 m long fresco painted on the ceiling of the first floor. This is a work made in 1597 by Caravaggio, which alone would be worth 310 million euros. The house includes other works of art and rare objects. A strange statue in the middle of the garden would even be attributed to Michelangelo.

The villa, owned by a princely family, was put up for auction by court order in January 2022 to end an inheritance dispute. But – surely because of its price – the villa did not find a buyer. A new sale was organized in April and then in May, the price falling each time, but in vain.
At the end of October, a new auction session was therefore launched in the hope of finding the future owner of Villa Aurora. This time, bidding started at 241 million, almost half the value of the property.
