After two years, Taiwan celebrates its first LGBTQ Pride march

Tens of thousands of people braved the downpours on the island of Taiwan to celebrate the first march of the LGBTQ pride in two years.

Taiwan is at the forefront of LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, trans, bisexual and queer) rights in Asiaand became the first place in the region to legalize same-sex marriage in 2019.

In its capital, Taipei, every year a large pride paradebut last year it did not take place due to the covid-19 pandemicwhich forced the event to be held online.

This Saturday, the festivities were back, with attendees wearing colorful outfits and carrying flags. According to the organizers, Some 120,000 people participated in the march.

The record of participants, with 200,000 attendeesoccurred in 2019 after Taiwan legalize same-sex marriage that year.
