Two prisoners are found dead in a prison in Ecuador

The National Comprehensive Care Service The Adult Persons Deprived of Liberty and Adolescent Offenders (SNAI) reported this Sunday the discovery of two deceased prisoners in a cell in Ecuador.

In a message to the press, the SNAI indicated that on Saturday “Servants of the Penitentiary Security and Surveillance Corps gave the alert of two people deprived of their liberty who died due to apparent suspension at the CPPL Pichincha No. 1, in two different blocks.”

Given this, the due protocols were executed so that the competent authorities enter the place, proceed with the removal of the bodies and carry out the corresponding investigations, he pointed out.

The two deprived of liberty were identified as Luis M. and Edison L., he specified in SNAI without further details.

More than 100 deaths in 2022

So far this year, more than 100 inmates have died violently in Ecuadorian prisons and more than 450 have been murdered since 2020.

Human rights groups have even described this situation as “prison genocide” due to the alleged lack of action by the State to stop the recurring massacres in prisons.
