“We highlight the key role of Western secret services in organizing the mass unrest in Iran”, Patrushev said during consultations with Russian leaders in Tehran, according to the newspaper “Rossíyskaya Gazeta”.

Patrushev also alluded to the spread of “disinformation” on the situation in the Islamic republic by Western-controlled media broadcasting in Farsi.

“We see this as gross interference in the internal affairs of a sovereign state”he claimed.

He stressed that “Russia and Iran are in the midst of a sharp struggle for the establishment of a multipolar world.”

“This is a confirmation of the unprecedented pressure on our countries by Washington and its satellites.”, he added.

Patrushev, who addressed the situation in Ukraine and cooperation in security matters in Tehran, was received by the president, Ebrahim Raisí.

The authorities of the Islamic republic also accuse the United States of fomenting the protests, in which more than a hundred people have died, according to human rights organizations.

The protests began on September 16 in different cities of the country due to the death in police custody of the young Mahsa Amini, who had been arrested for wearing the Islamic veil incorrectly.

In recent days, the repression against the mobilizations has hardened, especially with arrests in the universities, after an ultimatum from the Revolutionary Guard in which it demanded that the young people stop protesting.

At least 12,500 Iranians have been detained during the protests, according to the Oslo-based Iran Human Rights organization.
