Attack in Istanbul: Turkish president denounces “vile terrorist attack” and confirms 6 dead by explosion

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan denounced a “vile attack” that caused “six deaths and 58 injuries” on Sunday in istanbulaccording to a last balance, he specified live on television.

“The first observations suggest a terrorist attack,” the president later told the press, adding that “a man and a woman would be involved.” without further details.

There were rumors, after the explosion, that it could have been a suicide attack, but without any proof or confirmation.

“The perpetrators of this vile attack will be unmasked. May our population be sure that they will be punished.” declared erdoğan two hours after the explosion that occurred in the commercial street of istiklalin the heart of istanbul.

“Attempts to plunge Turkey and the Turkish nation into terror will not achieve their goal today or tomorrow, any more than they have in the past,” assured the president.

The explosion occurred shortly after 4:00 p.m. (1:00 p.m. GMT), at a time when the crowd is especially dense on this street where locals and tourists usually go for a walk.
