Evo Morales tells Luis Arce that the census law is a “historical error”

The ex-president Evo Morales expressed his disagreement with the census law promulgated this Friday by the president of bolivian, Luis Arceand told him that it will be a “historical error”, in addition, that it is an “early Christmas gift” for opposition leaders.

“The promulgation of the census law by our brother president @LuchoXBolivia will be a historic error as it is the 1st time that a president signs a law that makes his own decree unnecessary,” Morales said through his Twitter account.

The also leader of the ruling Movement for Socialism (MAS) wondered if “has this consequence been premeditated by the coup opposition?”

Arce promulgated the Law for the Application of the Results of the Population and Housing Census in the Financial and Electoral Fields, indicating that it is not a norm of the “right” and that the destabilizing plans that wanted to “shorten” their mandate were “defeated”, both from the opposition and from a faction of his own party, the MAS.

The president also made reference to the internal division that exists in the MAS and maintained that some want to see him “fail” and that they “strive” to make him see his party as a “traitor” and that there are even lists of “alleged traitors”.

He also pointed out that from the very ranks of the MAS some agree to “shorten” his mandate, but that he is faithful to his political and ideological principles and that his conscience “is not negotiated.”

Morales lamented that Arce’s “image advisers” are “out of date”, since in his opinion the Bolivian people were waiting for a message about the determination of the International Court of Justice in The Hague on Silala.

However, Arce ruled on the ruling on Thursday on his Twitter account, in which he stressed that the ICJ “ratified” Bolivia’s right to those waters and the “dismantling” of the artificial channels.

Morales said that the enactment of the census law is an “early Christmas gift” for former opposition presidents Jorge Quiroga, Carlos Mesa and the governor of Santa Cruz, Luis Fernando Camacho.

The law, which only consists of one article, was approved in both Houses of Parliament with votes from the opposition and a part of the MAS, although a faction close to the former Bolivian president rejected it.

A sector related to Morales analyzes presenting an appeal before the Constitutional Court considering that a law on the census was not necessary, since it is an attribution of the Executive.

The Government had initially set the census for November of this year, but in July it was postponed until 2024, arguing “technical problems and the need to “depoliticize” the process, which led to protests, especially in Santa Cruz, which held a strike for 36 days.
