Germany: A network in the far-right network is suspected of wanting to attack the Bundestag

A large-scale operation by the German police within the extreme right and conspiratorial groups led on Wednesday morning to the liquidation of a cell that was planning armed attacks. The latter were targeted, in particular, at the Bundestag, the lower house of parliament, the prosecution said.

The repression led to the arrest across the country of 25 people belonging to the “Citizens of the Reich” (Reichsbürger) movement. In particular, they are suspected of “specific preparations for forcible entry into the German Bundestag with a small armed group,” the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.

Planned assassinations

According to this press release from the Federal Prosecutor’s Office, the members of the group pursued the goal of “overcoming the existing state system in Germany and replacing it with their own form of government, which has already been worked out in general terms.” . They realized that this goal “can be achieved only through military means and violence against government officials,” Die Welt is quoted as saying.

Citizens of the Reich would also be considered “murderers”. According to a press release from the authorities, the “military hand” was supposed to ensure the implementation of the plan to seize power “by force of arms.”
