It is expected that the Permanent Council vote to approve a joint statement on events in the Peru.

During the session, Former Paraguayan Foreign Minister Eladio Loizaga, who led the working group that the OAS sent to Peru in mid-November at Castillo’s request, is expected to make a statementlike the general secretary of the organization, Luis Almagro.

Previously, the ambassador of the Peru before the OASHarold Forsyth, had resigned from his position in another session this Wednesday of the Permanent Council, minutes after Castillo’s decision to dissolve Parliament and call a national emergency government was known.

In statements to EFE, Forsyth assured that Castillo was leading a “dictatorship” and that he decided to resign so as not to endorse a “rupture of the constitutional order.”

After his announcement, the plenary session of the Peruvian Congress dismissed Castillo for “permanent moral incapacity” and he was arrested shortly after by the police.

Last week, the OAS sent a preliminary report from a working group that traveled to the country at Castillo’s request to analyze the situation: In its recommendations, the organization requested that a political truce be called in the country and that a dialogue be initiated between the parties to overcome the governance crisis.
