Russia hopes that the political transition in Peru after the removal of President Pedro Castillo will be held peacefully and “without interference from abroad,” said the spokeswoman for the Foreign Ministry, María Zajárova, on Thursday.
“We hope that the process of transition of power in the Peru proceed calmly, within the legal framework, without destructive interference from abroad and contribute to the normalization of the situation in the country for the sake of the Peruvian people,” he said. Zakharova at a press conference.

He added that Russia maintains its desire to strengthen the “traditionally friendly” relations between the two peoples.
Castillo was arrested this Wednesday after being dismissed after trying to dissolve the Legislature and call a constituent process to avoid a political trial against him.
Castillo’s gesture was labeled a coup d’état by members of his own government and was rejected by the Armed Forces and the Police.
Congress appointed Vice President Dina Boluarte as the new president.
