Russia seizes Ukrainian town north of Avdivka

Today the Russian army took the city of Archangelnorth of the Ukrainian stronghold of Avdivka taken earlier in the year as part of its advance into eastern Ukraine.

“The units of the military group center released the city of Archangel of the Donetsk People’s Republic thanks to its successful war actions.”reported the Russian Ministry of Defense in its daily war report.

The military department added that in this sector of the front, Russian forces caused serious casualties to four Ukrainian brigades in the vicinity of the cities. Novoselivka Persh, Yasnobrodivka, Zelene Pole, Toretsk and Konstantínivkaall west and northwest of Avdivka.

After the failure of the Ukrainian counter-offensive last summer, Russian forces took advantage of the delay in Western assistance to intensify their actions along the entire Ukrainian front line, where they are advancing slowly despite the efforts of the Ukrainian army.

Over the past week, Russian forces occupied three cities in the region of Donetsk and another in the northeast region of Kharkiv, where Russia is trying to create a security zone to limit Ukrainian attacks against its border regions.
