Britney Griner issue: ‘It’s good to be at home,’ says basketball player

“It’s good to be home.” After ten months in Russia, women’s basketball superstar Brittney Griner made her first appearance this Friday, expressing her joy at being back on American soil. By the way, the basketball player indicated that she would play in the league again this season. “It’s good to be at home. The last ten months have been a constant struggle,” she said in her Instagram post, speaking publicly for the first time since her release.

In particular, she thanked his wife, Sherel Griner, President Joe Biden, and his Texas Phoenix Mercury team, for whom she assures she will play again this season. “I want to make one thing clear: I intend to play basketball for the WNBA Phoenix Mercury (North American Women’s Pro League) this season,” she said.

The two-time Olympian only touched a basketball after her release last Friday during a quick workout at a military base in San Antonio, Texas.

Exchange of prisoners

Brittney Griner was arrested in February on drug trafficking charges when she was hired by a Russian team in Yekaterinburg during the American off-season, which is a common practice.

Sentenced to nine years in prison and then transferred to a maximum security colony in central Russia, the 32-year-old was released after lengthy negotiations in exchange for Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout, who had served 25 years in a US prison. The latter landed in Russia on Thursday, Russian public television reported.
