Russia says its military maneuvers with China respond to the “aggressive” position of the United States

The naval exercises planned this week between the Russian and Chinese navies in the East China Sea are a “reaction” to the “aggressive” position of the United States in Asia, said the chief of the General Staff of RussiaValery Gerasimov.

“This cooperation is a natural reaction to the aggressive buildup of US military potential in the region.”indicated Gerasimov, before military representatives of foreign countries.

“Russian-Chinese sea and air patrols in the Asia-Pacific region, as well as exercises and training, became a practical application of the strategic partnership with China”Gerasimov pointed out during his speech.

Russia announced on Monday that several of its warships will take part in a series of exercises with the Chinese navy between December 21 and 27, as Moscow and Beijing strengthen ties with the West in the midst of a conflict in Ukraine.

in the plans there are also joint missile launch, artillery and anti-submarine exercises, The Russian Defense Ministry said.

“The objective of these exercises is to increase the coherence in combat of the troops and forces of both countries and their ability to resist new challenges and threats”Gerasimov pointed out.

However, the Russian chief of staff stated that Moscow and Beijing do not intend to “create alliances” or “new divisions in the region, like Washington.”

In recent months, The Kremlin has tried to strengthen its relations with Asian countries, especially China, in response to Western sanctions imposed on Russia after its offensive against Ukraine.

Moscow and Beijing are presented as a geopolitical counterweight to the United States and its allies, as witnessed by the visit to China on Wednesday of the former Russian president and current number two on the Security Council, Dmitri Medvedev, in which he met with President Xi Jinping.
