The official sent condolences, affection and respect to the family, friends and the Brazilian people on behalf of the Mexican Government.

“Rest in peace, Rei Pelé!” concluded Reyes, who accompanied the publication with a photograph of the Brazilian star wearing a charro hat, characteristic of Mexico, during the celebration of his triumph in the World Cup final Mexico 1970.

In that competition, the idol of Santos from Brazil was a key piece for the “Scratch du Oro” to manage to lift that world cup by scoring four goals in the championship.

After winning the crown by beating Italy 4-1 in the final played at the Azteca Stadium, the legendary Pelé withdrew from the World Cups.

Pelé died this Thursday, at the age of 82, in a hospital in Sao Paulo where he had been admitted since last November 29 due to complications from the cancer he suffered.
