Pregnant woman fell into an uncovered sewer in Barranquilla

Unclogged sewers continue to be a danger for citizens who travel on foot through the streets of Barranquilla.

The last victim was Emily Charris, a 33-year-old pregnant woman, who fell into one of those traps in the southeast of the city. The unfortunate event occurred last Tuesday morning at Carrera 8 with Calle 30.

“My wife was walking from there to here to catch a 30 bus and unfortunately fell, half her body,” said Yoseth Márquez, husband and who filed the complaint. The woman suffered several blows to her body, however, and miraculously, the baby had no complications.

This was concluded after going to a medical center where they did an ultrasound which fortunately showed that the baby was in perfect condition.

Several have been the victims of the holes in each street of the city, including, in September, an 18-year-old girl lost her life due to the injuries she suffered when she fell into one of them.
