The best moments in life are the unexpected ones, especially if they are good news that we have been waiting for a long time, such as what the Scottish Joyce Curtis experienced when she found out that the son she left for dead more than a decade ago was alive and soon he will return home. The story, which has been described as a “Christmas miracle”, is viral on social networks.

Joyce spent 12 years without seeing Nicholas, but the day would finally come when she would be with him again.

According to the Scottish newspaper The Herald, Joyce filed a missing person’s report with authorities in 2009 after not hearing from her son for a long time. At that time he, a carpenter by trade, he had traveled in search of work on the European continent since she had lost hers, and had heard that Nicholas was hitchhiking through Spain and France.

In 2010, a year after the complaint was filed with the authorities, Joyce’s family received a call from the British Consulate in Paris to tell them that their son was in a local hospitalso they traveled without imagining that it would be the last time they would see it until 2022.

In this span of time, Joyce thought that Nicholas had spent a while “living in the open” in the streets of Paris, but after seeing him for the last time just “disappeared again”despite the fact that the consulate said it would help him return home.

“I was working at the Hospital General del Sur at that time. I was waiting for him when he came home and there was no signJoyce told The Herald, but it took 12 years to hear from him.

“When I received the call to say that he was alive, I was just in shock”, said the mother according to the outlet, which made her extremely excited. “Then, of course, I called my mother and I called my brother and I called my daughter to tell them.”he added.

And it is that Joyce had resigned herself to the worst scenario, she had given up on the idea of seeing her son Nicholas again but fortunately she found him. “I can not believe it. I thought that with COVID and everything that has happened, i thought i was dead. I was very sad for him.”he told The Herald.

Joyce, who recently lost her husband, said that in all these years of searching I had called several airports to find out if his son had taken a flight, but did not receive any confirmation or relevant information until last week, on Christmas Eve.
