Colombia creates the Ministry of Equality to give voice to the excluded and Francia Márquez will be its first head

Colombian Vice President France Marquezassured this Wednesday that the origin of the violence that affects the country lies in injustice, inequality and inequity, during the presidential sanction of the law that creates the Ministry of Equalityof which he will be the owner.

The origin of armed violence, the origin of the armed conflict in this country is called inequality”, expressed the official in Istmina, a town in the department of Chocó, one of the poorest and most forgotten in the country, where the presentation of the new ministry took place.

The vice president stressed that with the new ministry what she is looking for is “guarantee the right to equality and equity for all Colombians and give a voice to those who have historically been excluded and marginalized”.

In that direction, he explained that in the last days of last year he met with the Minister of Finance, Jose Antonio Ocampoto explain to him “where was the money going to come from?” for the operation of this new portfolio.

Márquez said that the Government chose Istmina to give life to the Ministry of Equalitywhose creation was approved by Congress last December, because “could not be done from comfort” from Bogota.

The official recalled that Chocó has been one of the “most forgotten departments“and that’s why”from Istmina (…) is that we are going to start building equality and equity for all”.

Likewise, he emphasized the way in which this portfolio will also focus on the defense of women’s rights.

Equality has to allow women to stop gender-based violence, have economic autonomy, have access to employment under equal conditions, that is, equal work, equal pay. We have no reason as women to work more and earn less”, stressed the vice president.

Colombian President, Gustavo Petrowho arrived at the event hours late, signed the law that gives life to the new entity and reaffirmed that the vice president will be “Prime Minister for Equality”.

The event included the participation of sectors of the population that the new ministry will focus on, including women, the LGBTIQ+ population, Afro-descendants, blacks, Raizales, palenqueros, indigenous people, and Roma.
