Coincidence? Ovidio Guzmán and other arrests close to bilateral meetings with the US.

Ovid Guzmanson of “El Chapo”, was recaptured on January 5, 2023 in Culiacán, Sinaloa, a fact that has not gone unnoticed because it occurs within the framework of the president’s visit Joe Biden to Mexico for the North American Leaders Summit.

Ovidio Guzmán unleashes second “Black Thursday” in Culiacán

Ovidio Guzmán was recaptured on what was the second “Black Thursday” in Culiacán, Sinaloa. This, after the first arrest and subsequent release of “El Ratón” was carried out in 2019, which also unleashed drug blockades and confrontations at that time.

The arrest of Ovidio Guzmán, leader of the “Los Menores” fraction related to the Sinaloa Cartel, occurred in the framework of a strong operation implemented by the Secretary of National Defense (Sedena) and six-month intelligence work, according to with what is referred to by its owner Luis Crescencio Sandoval.

“This arrest represents a forceful blow to the leadership of the Pacific Cartel, actions that endorse the loyal and institutional commitment of the Mexican Army, National Guard, CNI, CENFI, the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic and the Secretary of Public Security of the State,” he quoted at a press conference.

The capture of Ovidio Guzmán is not the only apprehension that is carried out in the framework of a bilateral meeting with the United States, it also happened with El Marro, Rafael Caro Quintero and ex-governor César Duarte.

Rafael Caro Quintero

On July 15, 2022, Rafael Caro Quintero, one of the most wanted Mexican drug traffickers by the United States, was arrested. The arrest occurred in the municipality of San Simón Choix, in Sinaloa.

“El Narco de Narcos” was apprehended by the Secretary of the Navy days after President Andrés Manuel López Obrador held a bilateral meeting with his US counterpart, Joe Biden, at the White House.

The meeting held by both leaders was held on July 13, in which President Biden assured “he had a solid and productive relationship” with López Obrador.

the marro

José Antonio Yépez, alias “El Marro”, was arrested on August 2, 2020 in the state of Guanajuato. The leader of the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel, he was one of the most wanted men in the entire country.

The apprehension of “El Marro”, who was accused of Organized Crime and fuel theft, was achieved in a coordinated effort between federal and state forces.

The coincidence was that his capture occurred a month after the visit of Andrés Manuel López Obrador to the United States in July 2020, when Donald Trump was still president, in what was the first state visit for the Mexican president.

“El Marro” was captured along with an alleged security chief and four other elements of the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel.

Cesar Duarte

One more arrest that draws attention is that of the former governor of Chihuahua, César Duarte in the United States in July 2020, in the framework of the same visit by López Obrador for a bilateral meeting with then-President Donald Trump.

The capture took place the same day as the meeting at the White House, July 8, 2020. The United States Department of Justice informed the Mexican Embassy in Washington of the capture of César Duarte Jáquez, former governor of Chihuahua, in the state of Florida.

The former official was accused of embezzlement for the diversion and improper disposal of 1.2 billion pesos, in addition to the delivery of resources from the state payroll to PRI electoral campaigns.

César Duarte was accused by the Government of Chihuahua of benefiting from the public treasury.
