“I think it is important that we take travel measures in the framework of the fight against covid-19 at European level”, Dutch Health Minister Ernst Kuipers was quoted as saying in the statement.

The European Union this week advised its member states to require negative coronavirus tests from travelers coming from China before their flight and to carry out “random tests” upon arrival in Europe.

The Dutch government advises from Friday to wear a mask on flights to or from China.

The executive also “studied the possibility of analyzing the wastewater from airplane toilets coming from China for mutations” of the virus, the ministry added.

Amsterdam-Schiphol airport is one of the largest in Europe and a hub for numerous intercontinental transfers.

China is facing a new outbreak of covid-19 since it lifted its health restrictions.

Last week, Spain, Italy and France unilaterally decided to impose negative tests on travelers from China. The United States and Japan also imposed similar measures.

The Chinese government said Tuesday that these measures were “unacceptable” and threatened to “take countermeasures.”
