Ukraine: two dead and nine wounded in a day, despite the Russian truce

Russia did not long keep in suspense the reality of this “truce” in the conflict. In the past 24 hours, two people have died and nine more have been injured in Ukraine, despite Vladimir Putin’s unilateral ceasefire order that ended at midnight, Ukrainian authorities said on Sunday.

According to the deputy head of the presidential administration of Ukraine Kyrylo Tymoshenko, one civilian died in the Kharkiv region (northeast) and Donetsk region (east), nine people died in three regions.

On Friday and Saturday, during this unilateral truce imposed by Russia on the occasion of Orthodox Christmas, hostilities continued, although their intensity was less than on previous days.

“Difficult” situation in the east

After the end of the ceasefire, the Ukrainian General Staff recorded more than fifty rocket and missile attacks by the Russian Federation in several regions of Ukraine during the night.

Ukraine’s Deputy Defense Minister Anna Malyar reported on a “difficult” situation in the east, where most of the fighting is concentrated, acknowledging that Russian forces were “advancing in some areas” but saying Kyiv forces were also advancing elsewhere, “one step at a time.” step.”

The situation is particularly “very difficult,” she said, in Soledar, a town located near Bakhmut, the hottest spot on the front, where AFP recorded artillery duels on Friday after a theoretical ceasefire came into effect.-Russian fire.
