The doctor gave him some recommendations to control his blood sugar levels, so he decided to completely change his eating habits, eliminating the consumption of table sugar.

“I have been without sugar for many years. At first it was difficult because I was ‘addicted’ to sugar, but I think it is one of the most important reasons why I have been able to stay healthy and keep my body in shape, ”he said in an interview with ‘Daily Mail Australia’.

Hartz replaced the sugars with xylitol, also known as birch sugar. It is a sweetener that is frequently used in chewing gum, toothpastes, syrups, and other products.

The woman learned about this substance when she traveled to the United States, learned about its properties and incorporated its use in Australia, where she is recognized as the ‘Xylitol Lady’. Among other things, because she founded her own brand of sugar-free products: SweetLife.

In addition, he has written several books, such as ‘Sugar Free Baking’, in which he tells of his experience and teaches how to prepare desserts, breads and cakes, but without sugar. For Hartz, health should not be far from delicious preparations.

“I think it’s very important to be aware of the type of food you eat and the amount of food you eat. Being aware while eating is a very important factor, ”he assured in the aforementioned interview.

Today, she is highly admired not only for being an entrepreneur, but for showing off a very young figure, because, for many Internet users, she does not have the appearance of a 74-year-old woman, nor does she appear to be the mother of three children. Regarding the subject, Hartz explains that, although some aesthetic procedures have been done, the most important thing is to have a healthy diet and habits such as sports and meditation.

“We know that our metabolism slows down as we get older, which means we have to take control of our bodies and make healthier choices, as well as work a little harder,” he said.

In addition, he advises being grateful and not comparing yourself to others: “Be aware of what you like about them and let them inspire you, but we are all individuals and we all have our own special traits,” he said.

Currently, Carolyn Hartz is not only dedicated to her company, but has also become an important ‘influencer’ of healthy living, as she shares her routines and recipes on her social networks, but also has a blog in which she gives advice of lifestyle.

What is xylitol and what do the experts think?

According to nutritionist and dietitian Alicia Cleves, “it is a polyalcohol that is taken as a sweetener and serves to reduce the caloric intake of sugar because it has much less, but the sweetness is the same.”

According to the expert, it is derived from xylose, also called wood sugar, a substance with a sweet taste, but with three times fewer calories and without any effect on glucose levels.

“There is no problem that the lady has lasted all that time without sugar and using xylitol. In fact, diet gum contains this substance”, the professional clarified. However, she also warned that care should be taken with the abuse of this product because it can cause digestive problems and diarrhea.

“One of the problems with xylitrol is that it can cause flatulence and diarrhea, so you have to be careful with irritable bowel patients because it will fill them with gas,” Cleves said.

In this sense, Maritza Gómez, a nutritionist from the National University, explained that: “Polyalcohols such as xylitol are easily fermented in the colon, causing symptoms such as gas, bloating or even diarrhea if their consumption is exceeded.”

In such a way that the specialists recommend consulting with a professional before making the decision to stop sugar, since the advice of an expert who takes into account your health and metabolism conditions is always important.
