Tragedy in Medellín: two people died trapped in a car due to rain

Authorities in Medellín, in Colombiareported that two people died and dozens were injured after a serious emergency presented in the capital of Antioquia due to the heavy rains registered this Saturday night.

The Medellín Administrative Department of Disaster Risk Management (DAGRD) delivered around 1:00 am this Sunday an assessment of what happened in the sector known as the depressed area of ​​Conquistadores.

In it, he specified that “the official fire brigade of Medellin finds a completely flooded vehicle, where the inspection is carried out and two corpses are found, corresponding to two adults: a man and a woman”.

In images from a security camera, broadcast on social networks, the exact moment in which the vehicle enters the depressed area and is submerged in the water is observed.

The mayor of Medellin had reported in a preliminary balance the death of three people, a fact that was later specified by relief authorities on the ground.

“I regret to report that we have found a completely submerged vehicle in the depressed area of ​​Conquistadores. Inside is at least the body of three lifeless people. I am in the place personally directing the rescue efforts”, reported Daniel Quintero, mayor of Medellín, around 10 pm on Saturday.

In addition, on the last night of the Christmas lights that dressed MedellinSeveral people were reported injured by the collapse of part of its infrastructure.

After more than four hours of heavy rainfall, part of the structure of the house of the Madrigal family from the movie ‘Encanto’ fell in Parques del Río.

This emergency left a balance of 10 injured, according to a preliminary report from the Mayor’s Office.

“At this time, the DAGRD, with the Official Medellin Fire Department, attends to the emergency presented at the Christmas lights in the Parques del Río area.

The heavy rainfall caused the collapse of one of the structures, leaving 10 people injured so far”, they indicated in an initial statement. From EPM they indicated that “an incident originated in the main node of the Christmas Lights, with the fall of 8 gates that are part of the decoration and a palm pole”.

The relief agencies assigned to provide care at the site, together with personnel from the Ministry of Health, are providing pre-hospital care. So far, the transfer of three people to health centers has been reported.
