The United States will help Ukraine repair its power grid

United States will help Ukraine to repair its electrical grid, which has been severely attacked by Russia, the head of the US agency for international development aid announced on Wednesday.

Washington will provide $125 million in electrical parts and other equipment to help Ukraine recover from Russian assaults on its electrical infrastructure, it announced. Samantha Powerhead of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

USAID will use the funds to build replacement water and heating networks in kyiv, and to ship gas turbines, transformers and other equipment.

powerwho is at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, announced the initiative in a statement on Wednesday. USAID says the money comes from supplemental funding for Ukraine approved by Congress last month.

Since October, Russian forces have intensified their attacks on the power grid and other critical infrastructure, leaving Ukraine repeatedly in the dark in the winter cold. Technicians are hard at work restoring electricity and heating amid near-weekly barrages against the country’s infrastructure.

Since Russia invaded Ukraine in February of last year USAID it has sent 1,415 generators to the country to maintain light and heating in schools, hospitals and other places. USAID has also invested $55 million in Ukrainian heating infrastructure.
